BENNINGTON -- Irene Gillins, 92, a former resident of Union Street and School Street, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the Crescent Manor Car Center following a long illness.

She was born in Bronx, N.Y. Aug. 19, 1912. She received her education in New York. Irene had been a resident of Bennington since 1960.

In earlier years, Irene was employed in the composing room at the Bennington Banner, and later she worked as a companion for the elderly.

Irene enjoyed music and reading. She was an R.S.V.P. volunteer and a member of the Bennington Eagles Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Jo Montgomery and her husband Robert of Sunderland; two sisters, Mae Candib of Bennington and Lillian Bresnahan of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Sidney Gilinsky.

A graveside committal service will be held in the family lot in the Bennington Hebrew Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
