SHAFTSBURY -- Irene Louise Salin, 79, a resident of Route 7A in Shaftsbury, died on Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2005, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington following a long illness.

She was born in West Warwick, R.I. on June 3, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary (Mederios) Sylvia. She received her education in the local schools in the area and is a graduate from high school in Barrington, R.I. She moved to Vermont many years ago, and for many years she was employed by the Cliff Collection in Manchester. Mrs. Salin has also owned and operated the Continental Collection Leather Shop in Shaftsbury and has owned shops in Rutland and Maine.

She was a member of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and was an avid skier. In younger years, she enjoyed dancing and ice skating. Her special interests included helping raise money for the Shaftsbury Children’s Park by running Continental Collection’s fashion show.

Mrs. Salin is survived by her son Ron Palmieri of Shaftsbury, her sister Evelyn Thomas of Lilburn, Ga. and her sister-in-law Erma Adams of Pasadena, Md.

She has two nephews, Donald Adams of Chicago and Christopher Thomas of Lilburn, and one niece, Mary Burnett of Baltimore. She is predeceased by one brother, William Adams.

At Mrs. Salin’s request, there will be no services. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad or the Habitat for Humanity, through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
