WOODFORD -- Mrs. Irene Mary Barbeau, 80, widow of Phillip E. Barbeau, a resident of Route 9, Woodford, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a brief illness.

Born in Woodford, Aug. 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Richard C. and Eva A. (Harvey) Rumboldt. She received her education at the Woodford School. Mr. and Mrs. Barbeau were married at the Episcopal Church rectory in Bennington on Nov. 14, 1942. Mr. Barbeau died May 21, 1996. In earlier years, Mrs. Barbeau worked at the Catamount Motel and babysat for many of the Woodford children. She later was employed at Union Carbide Corp. for 15 years until the time of her retirement.

Mrs. Barbeau was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bennington. She was also a member of the Bennington Senior Citizens Group and AARP and volunteered her time at Nearly New Shop on Main Street. She was a life member of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary and was a former member of the Moose Family Center. Irene was also a member of the Woodford Cemetery Committee. She was very fond of her beloved dog, Yogi Bear.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Rogers of North Bennington; a son, Fred Barbeau and Maryellen of Woodford; five grandchildren, Angela Francis and her husband, Russ, of South Dennis, Mass., William P. Rogers and Athena of North Bennington and Jessica, Laurie and Timmy Beebe, all of Wallingford; five great-grandchildren, Dylan G. Beebe of Wallingford, Chloe and Billy Rogers of North Bennington and Kylie and Connor Francis of South Dennis, Mass.; a sister, Doris Boutin of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard R. Rumboldt Sr., who died Feb. 6, 2003.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 10 a.m. with the Rev Deborah Estey pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The entombment will take place in Park Lawn Chapel in Bennington with the burial to take place in the family lot in the Woodford Cemetery in the spring.
