Irene V. Mudgett

1915-2010 BENNINGTON Irene Vondle Mudgett, 94, a resident of The Village at Fillmore Pond, passed into the light Tuesday, Feb. 16, after a short illness.

Born in Stowe, June 29, 1915, she is predeceased by two sisters, a brother, and the love of her life, Frank. Irene and Frank met in Johnson, Vt. in 1933, while she was attending college. After receiving her teaching certificate, Irene taught in a one-room schoolhouse.

Frank and Irene were married in Rupert, Vt. in 1941. They lived most of their lives in Bennington. They owned and operated the Bennington Bowl Away-Bowling Alley until 1951. In 1948 Irene opened The Yard Stick, then located under the Putnam Hotel, until retirement in 1977.

Irene loved flower gardening and traveling with husband, Frank, and their many adventures took them to Labrador, Canada and Alaska. They had a camp on Lake Carmi, Franklin, Vt., where they spent many wonderful times. After retirement Frank and Irene wintered in Florida.

Irene leaves her beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as great great-nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be in the spring at the convenience of the family with burial in Rupert, Vt.
