Irene Romano

1930-2013 Irene Romano died June 2, at the Albany Medical Center after a sudden, brief illness.

She was 82 years of age. Most recently residing on Oak Knoll in Arlington, Vermont, Irene grew up on the family farm in the green hills of Weston, Vermont. The fifth of six children born to Ryland and Edna Spaulding, Irene was born on September 26, 1930 and was preceded by her brothers Ellis and Gilbert "Gil" and sisters Ardis and Hilda. She was followed by her baby brother Ryland "Dickie" Spaulding. The strength of family ties was of great importance to Irene for her whole life.

Along with her brothers and sisters, Irene attended the Weston Elementary school. She graduated from Chester High School on June 3, 1948. After High School she attended Castleton State College for two and a half years. She married Robert Frappier of Rutland in 1951 and the couple had two sons. The young family moved to Globe, Arizona to pursue teaching positions. After six years they returned to Vermont and Irene returned to school at the Pittsfield Hospital to become a medical technician, a career that took her to the Rutland Hospital and a new life in Rutland, Vermont.

She married Anthony Romano in 1970 and the family moved to Manchester. After his retirement, Tony and Irene moved to the Oak Knoll address where Irene would remain until her death. She was an active member of the Arlington Federated Church which she had attended for many years. She was a voracious reader and loved to garden. The most precious thing in her life was her family.

rene was predeceased by her husband Tony and all but one of her siblings.

Irene is survived by her brother Ryland "Dick" Spaulding of Grand Prairie, Texas, her sons Michael B. Frappier of West Hartford, Vermont and J. Christopher Frappier of Middlebury, Vermont. She was also survived by her grandchildren Andrew, Erin, Emma, Julie, and Evelyn and three great-grandchildren Irene, Max, and Grayson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at the Arlington Federated Church in East Arlington, Vermont at 2:00 on June 16, 2013. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship and light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Bennington
