BENNINGTON -- Isabel T. Beshara, 88, a longtime resident of Park Street, Bennington, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., July 23, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Simon and Malaky (Anton) Mackour. Isabel received her education in Lawrence, Mass. On June 28, 1943, Isabel married George Joseph Beshara at Saint Anthony’s Church in Lawrence. Mr. Beshara died March 13, 1976.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Isabel’s home and family were her main interest. She loved to cook and was well known for her Arabic cooking much to the delight of many people. Isabel touched many people’s lives and was known as “Izzy” to many people and “Sito” to her grandchildren. Isabel was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church.

Survivors include a son John Beshara, and his wife, Diane, of Bennington; two daughters Joanne Beshara of Bennington and Shirley Nolin and her husband, Frank, of Bennington; three grandsons Jeffrey Gygax of Washington D.C., George Beshara of Santa Clara, Calif., and John Anthony Beshara of Bennington; two great-granddaughters Alaina and Kea Beshara of Santa Clara, Calif.; two sisters, Ann Armeen of Lawrence, Mass., and Alice Cook of Methuen, Mass.; a brother Ernest Mackour of Lawrence, Mass.; a special niece Joyce Armeen of Newburyport, Mass.; a very close friend Karen Goodhue of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Margaret Hajj, and a brother, Albert Mackour, and two nieces, Sandra Nevins and Barbara Cook.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, with a prayer at 10:30 a.m. and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Isabel T. Beshara may be made to either Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Bennington Rescue Squad or the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Tower Fund through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
