NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Isabelle Jean Lawless, 86, widow of Philip J. Lawless, a longtime resident of Overlea Road, North Bennington, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Centers for Extended Care in Amherst, Mass. following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington Sept. 4, 1917, Jean was the daughter of the late Clifford and Inez (McCurdy) Turner. She received her education in North Bennington and was a graduate of the former North Bennington High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawless were married on April 9, 1939 in Bennington. Mr. Lawless died Sept. 17, 1997.

For many years Jean was employed at various restaurants in the area including the 1896 House and the Paradise.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Dihlmann of Northampton, Mass.; three grandchildren, Bree Cunningham, Seth and Benjamin Dihlmann; a brother, John Turner of St. Cloud, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lawless was predeceased by a brother, Donald Turner.

Graveside committal services will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 12:15 p.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

There will be no calling hours.
