Iva Jane Towery

1929-2013 ARLINGTON Iva Jane Towery, 84, formerly of Center Lane in Arlington, passed away October 29, 2013 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Iva was born in Arlington on August 3, 1929, the daughter of Jesse and Dorothy (Pierce) Squiers. She was educated in Arlington schools graduating from Arlington High School, class of 1947 and then attended St. Joseph Business College. In her earlier years, Iva worked as a housekeeper. She worked for Hale Company in Arlington and then worked for Union Carbide as a custodian then for Eveready for three years, retiring in 1991. Iva also worked for the Bennington Banner and Rutland Herald. She was a member of the Navy during the Korean Conflict, was active in many Arlington Clubs and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was active in St. James Episcopal Church as a member of the Altar Guild and with her mother made cushions for the church pews. She enjoyed knitting, needle point, crocheting and quilting and volunteered for Ride and Shine for Special Children & Equestrian for 10 years. Iva is survived by her son, Calvin Towery and his wife Lenora of Caanan, New Hampshire; many nieces, nephews, cousins, many good friends; and her sister-in-law, Sue Squiers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Morrisey who died June 26, 2009; brother, Pierce Squiers; and her former husband, Carl Towery who died in 1986. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services for Iva will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington. Interment will follow in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening November 15, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE & SHEA FUNERAL HOME ARLINGTON CHAPEL, Route 7A, Arlington, Vermont.
