FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Iverna B. Burke, 86, a resident of Fort Myers and Wells, Vt., died on Saturday evening, Oct. 18, at the Hope House Hospice in Cape Coral. She was born in Windsor, Vt. on July 27, 1917, and was the daughter of Joseph and Bessie (Quimby) Lapine. She received her education in Windsor schools. While working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Windsor in 1941, she met Robert Buck, who she married on June 20, 1942. Mr. Buck died in 1977.

The Buck’s had lived most of their married lives in Arlington, and “Verna” had worked at the Orvis Co. for many years retiring in 1979. Following her retirement she traveled to Florida for the winters.

She met and later married Richard Burke in Ft. Myers, Fla. Mr. Burke died while they were in Wells, Vt. on Sept. 15, 1983.

Mrs. Burke was a member of the Woodsmen of America in Wells, Vt., American Legion Auxiliary Post of Newport, Vt., a member of the Ladies 9 Hole Golf Association and the Lake St. Catherine Association in Wells, Vt. Mrs. Burke also bowled in the Seven Lakes Bowling League. When she was in Ft. Myers, she was a volunteer at Today’s Surgery for 15 years.

Mrs. Burke is survived by two sons, Steven R. Buck of West Palm Beach and Barry S. Buck of Berlin, N.Y.; and one daughter JoAnne Buck of Monument, Colo. She has eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later time and will be announced by the Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel in Arlington, Vt. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel, P. O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
