Jack Howland Ritchie

1942-2013 ARLINGTON Jack Howland Ritchie, 71, passed away Wednesday November 13, 2013 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Jack was born in Troy, New York on April 9, 1942 the son of the late Henry C. and Carolyn (Moffat) Ritchie. He attended school in Manchester, Vermont and graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary, class of 1960. Jack worked as a property caretaker and landscaper and worked caretaking for Paul Lowerre for many years. Jack was a member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department for four years and the Arlington Fire Department as an active member for ten years. Jack loved the outdoors and landscaping. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and kayaking. He enjoyed traveling to Maine, watching sports on the television, spending time with his family and Friday night dinners with his wife Kay. Jack also always looked forward to deer camp with his friend Crunch. Jack is survived by his wife the former Kay Reid of Arlington, children Dale B. Ritchie and his wife Ginger of Manchester, Jason T. Ritchie of Arlington and Chad Ritchie of Wallingford, Vermont, grandchildren Jenn Tyler and her husband Chris, Alexa Ritchie, Jacob Goodrich, Nicholas and Matthew Ritchie and his great grandchild Steele Tyler. Jack was preceded in death by his brother Ron Ritchie and sisters Joan Colvin and Virginia Martin. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Jack Howland Ritchie will be held Saturday November 30, 2013 at 1pm at the Federated Church of East Arlington. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
