Jackson H. Ostrander

1930-2013 BENNINGTON Jackson H. Ostrander, 82, recently residing with granddaughter Jeanne, and Todd Gould and their children on Old State Road in Berkshire, Mass. passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass.

Jack was a resident in Pownal, Vt. for many years, born in Pownal, on June 8, 1930 the son of the late Jackson G. Ostrander and Rhoda (Pratt) (Ostrander) Mason. He received his education in Pownal and Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School. Jack was a licensed steam engineer, working as a stationary engineer at General Cable for many years and then at Williams College from October 1984 until June 2001 when he retired.

Jack owned and ran horses at the Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal. He was an avid sports fan especially a fan of the New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed gardening especially growing raspberries; enjoyed playing cards especially cribbage and cherished times spent with his family.

Jack is survived by his children , Cheryl Brewer and her husband Erle of Pittsfield, Mass., Kimberly Sue Gross of Bennington and Lisa Jolin of Pownal Center; six other beloved grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia Patrie, who passed away September 19, 2011.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Jack will be held Saturday afternoon, May 25, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Pownal United Methodist Church. Rev. Susan Stewart will officiate. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening, May 24, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE & SHEA FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, Vt. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Jack's memory may be made to the Pownal United Methodist Church, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201.
