Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- James A. Lohnes, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. He resided at the Village at Fillmore Pond. He was the husband of Eleanor A. (Cipperly) Lohnes of Bennington.

He was born April 20, 1920 in Hoosick, N.Y. son of Walter and Lucy (Eldred) Lohnes. James was educated at Hoosick Falls High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1942 to 1946. While in the service he attained the rank of staff sergeant and worked as a foreman of the Automotive Repair Shop in Atlanta, Ga. He also served in the Philippines with the 288 Ordinance Co. James received the following medals while in the service: American Service Medal, God Conduct Medal, W.W. II Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star and the Asiatic Service Medal.

James was employed at the General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. as a machinist, for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hoosick, N.Y.

Survivors other than his wife Eleanor include several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Caroline Pierce and two brothers, Harold and Carroll Lohnes.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. from All Saints Episcopal Church in Hoosick. Burial will follow the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church through the funeral home.
