Obituary Condolences

WILMINGTON -- James A. Moore, 92, formerly a resident of Wilmington, and more recently of Fillmore Pond in Bennington, died peacefully, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Mr. Moore was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 21, 1915, he was the son of the late John and Jean (Pringle) Moore, he received his education in New York and also at The Pratt Institute where he majored in electrical engineering.

Mr. Moore was married to the former Gertrude Fryer on Feb. 4, 1940, for many years they had resided in Valley Stream, Long Island, prior to relocating to Vermont to be nearer their daughter Eileen. Mrs. Moore died May 31, 1991.

For many years, Mr. Moore had worked for AT&T and New York Telephone, retiring in 1977 as a building engineer, he was also a member of the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department and upon moving to Vermont became a member of the American Legion Post in Brattleboro.

An avid sportsman, he thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, baseball, basketball, racquetball and soccer, he continued to play golf until recently and had played pick up games of softball and racquetball well into his seventies and eighties. He will be remembered as a good family man and enjoyed wintering in the Carolinas.

He leaves his son, John Moore, and fiancé Susanna Nicholson of Charlottesville, Va.; a daughter, Eileen, and husband John Ranslow of Jacksonville; as well as numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two daughters, Catherine Jean Gropper and Janet Ann Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, Wilmington, burial will follow in the Moore family lot in Jacksonville Village Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until noon.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Moore may be made to either the Sloane Kettering Institute or American Parkinson Disease Association in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
