James Allen Howe Obituary
James Allen Howe, 89, a resident of Coulter Road, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington on December 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Daniel C. and Ila Lulu (Melvin) Howe. Jim received his education in the Bennington schools.

He married the former Jean Allyson Charlestream on January 12, 1947. Jean died September 25, 2012.

His entire working life was spent working as a carpenter in the Bennington area. He was known for his quality work and for his ability to build something out of nothing.

He loved and was loved by his family. He was a devout member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as the church treasurer for many years. He also enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Gail Howe of Shaftsbury; a grandson, Adam Howe and his wife Ashley of Shaftsbury; two great-grandsons, Addison and Asher Howe and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Morehouse and by six siblings, Arlene Joseph, Alice Towsley, Lula Sweet, Etta Howe and Clyde and Crosby Howe.

Memorial services celebrating the life of James Howe will be held from the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Houghton Lane in Bennington on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.
