James J. Carley

1932-2014 BENNINGTON James J. Carley, 82, a resident of Main Street in Bennington died Monday October 27, 2014 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington following a long illness. James was born in Bronx, N.Y. May 8, 1932. He was the son of the late John J. and Gertrude (Whitestone) Carley. James received his education in Yonkers, New York. He graduated from George C. Wallace Technical School in Alabama and attended both Bergen Community College and Berkeley Business College in New Jersey James served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Gunners Mate 2nd Class GMM2 SS. He later served in the Navy Reserves on Submarines. For many years James worked as a welder, mechanic and later as a purchasing agent He married the former Sally Morrill Krahmer on September 6, 1986 in Hackensack, N.J. He enjoyed making ship models and reading. He was an active member of the Bergen County Historical Society and a member of the U.S. Navy League and the William F. Burk Masonic Lodge F&AM in New Jersey Survivors include his wife Sally Carley of Bennington, Vt.; his cousins, Nancy Mitchell, Sharon Racine, Thomas Fawthrop and Lynn Fawthrop all of Rhode Island and Jessie Duke of Lenox, Mass. At Jim's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Mr. Carley's cremains will be buried at sea by the U. S. Navy.
