SOUTH DORSET -- James Francis Kelleher, 82, a longtime resident of South Dorset, died on October 27, 2003 at the Mountain View Center in Rutland. He was born in South Dorset on Jan. 7, 1921 and was the son of Michael and Catherine (Gallagher) Kelleher. He received his education in Dorset Schools and at Burr & Burton Seminary. Mr. Kelleher was a communicant of St. Jerome’s Church in East Dorset. For most of his life, he was involved with managing the family dairy farm in South Dorset. He was an avid outdoorsman with a true appreciation for nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and making dandelion wine.

James is survived by one sister, Julia Shirkey of New Market, Va., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister, Sarah Elwell, and two brothers, Philip and John Kelleher.

A prayer service will be held at the Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place in Manchester Center on Wednesday morning, Oct. 29, at 10:30 followed by a mass of Christian death and burial at 11 a.m. at St. Jerome’s Church with the Rev. Julian LaFlamme, officiating.

Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Jerome’s Cemetery in East Dorset.

There are no calling hours scheduled. Memorials in his honor may be made to the Smokey House Center, in care of the Brewster Funeral Service, P. O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
