Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. James H. Pleasant, 81, a resident of Safford Street, Bennington, died Monday evening Nov. 3, 2003 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington on Oct. 26, 1922. He was the son of the late Marshall and Lillian (Shepard) Pleasant. He received his education in Bennington.

Mr. Pleasant served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He was a prisoner of war in Germany.

He married the former Carmel Racicot Oct. 6, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. Mrs. Pleasant died Oct. 22, 1993.

Mr. Pleasant was a plumber by trade, and was employed in earlier years by J. H. Winslow Plumbing and Heating. He later was employed by Morse and Butler Builders and by Brent Peacock Construction.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1332 in Bennington and the American Legion Post 13. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His main interest was his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Susan Pleasant of Bennington and Jay T. and Patricia Pleasant of North Bennington; three grandchildren, Lori Pleasant of Bennington, Megan Pleasant of Colonie, N.Y. and Matthew Pleasant of Colonie; a sister, Mary Salvi of Troy, N.Y.; a brother, Harold Pleasant of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; his friend and companion Margaret Rhodes of Pownal; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Jepson.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Friday at 10 a. m. with the Rev. Michael Demasi officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
