1937 - 2014 MANCHESTER CENTER James E. Hunt, ("Big Jim"), 77 a resident of Richville Road, passed away Dec. 23, 2014 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, with his loving family by his side. Jim was born in Garfield, New York on Aug. 3, 1937 the son of the late Earl and Lillian (Hunt) Batchelder and attended local schools. Jim is a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956. He served in the Airborne Ranger Group. In 1955 he received his certification as an airplane repairman and in 1962 he received his diploma for air conditioning, refrigeration and electrical appliances. He was a Scout Master in Manchester, Fire Chief in Manchester and Bondville and an honorary member of the West Pawlet Fire Department. He was a Vermont and International Fire Instructor. Jim was the longest continuous member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Manchester, and a Life Member of the VFW and the DAV. He is a life member of the 40-8 Voiture #1224, and a Charter Club Life member and past member of Chef De Gar. He is a past member of the Son's of the American Legion. He is also a member of the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Honor Guard Association. Jim was a member of the American Legion and Vice Commander for the State of New York. He was a well-known and respected carpenter in the local community, started his own business as a contractor, followed by a home inspection business. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who survive him including his loving wife, Lorraine, daughters; Barbara, Julie, Pamela, April and Debbie, son, Kenny, sisters; Bette Gilbert of Sebring, Fla. and Rose Holcomb of Cambridge, N.Y., 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, Mitchel, Richard, and Jimmy, brother, Robert and sisters, Barbara and Helen. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Jim will be held on Saturday Dec. 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service 34 Park Place Manchester Center, Vermont. Interment will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Friday evening, Dec. 26, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
