James M. Main Sr.

1935 - 2015 BENNINGTON James M. Main Sr., 80, a resident of Middle Pownal Road died peacefully Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 in Bennington surrounded by his family. He was born in Bennington, VT on March 7, 1935. He was the son of the late Hiland Main Sr. and Elizabeth (Evans) Main. Jim received his education in Bennington and was a 1953 graduate of Bennington High School. He was a member of the Vermont National Guard. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Patricia Gauthier, on October 16, 1954 In earlier years Jim was employed at the Grand Union in both Bennington and Hoosick Falls. He also worked at the Green Mountain Race Track. For over 17 years Jim was employed as a plumber. He first worked for Ashley Swift Plumbing and later at St. Cyr Plumbing from which he retired. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jim loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, horse shoes and bowling. A diehard Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot fan, Jim also enjoyed playing softball, square dancing, dancing and spending time with his family. Jim was very talented with his hands. He was a fine artist. He built the family home in Bennington and along with his dad and brother, Bud, built a family camp on Lake Nineva in Mount Holly, VT. He was a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge # 567 Survivors include his wife, Patricia Main of Bennington, their children and spouses, Darlene Blanchard (Mark) of Milford, New Hampshire, Donna Main (Ray Murray), Denise Main, James Main (Eileen), Curtis Main (Linda), Christopher Main, Trisha Mahar (John) and Daniel Main all of Bennington; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leave a brother, Charles Main (Vitra) of Olympia, Washington and two sisters, Ida Gage (Art) of Pine Bush, NY and Eloise Jacobs (Leon) of Bennington along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Hiland "Bud" Main FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Friday July 3, 2015 at 1p.m. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 11a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. If friends desire contributions in memory of James M. Main Sr. may be made to HIS Pantry at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
