James O. Cross 1932 - 2008 NORTH BENNINGTON James O. Cross, 76, of George Street died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at the Vermont Veterans Home, surrounded by his family. Born in Bennington on March 4, 1932, son of Olin and Ruth Lane Cross, Jim received his education in the North Bennington schools and was a 1953 graduate of North Bennington High School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Jim served in the Army. A machinist by trade, Jim was employed at Union Carbide Corporation, later Eveready, for over 30 years. He was a past president and coach in the NorShaft Little League, and a former member of the Hale Mountain Fish and Game Club, the Bennington Club and the NorShaft Lions Club. Jim was a passionate outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, pruning other people's trees, woodworking, and spending time with his family which included his loyal Airedale "Misty" and Jack Russell Terrier "JOC." A gifted machinist with a sense of humor, he will also be remembered for the delight he took in "adjusting" other people's equipment and machinery. He married the former Ina Buck at St John the Baptist Church in North Bennington on Oct. 3, 1953. Besides his wife, Ina Cross of North Bennington, he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Earl White of Forestburgh, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Colleen Cross of Bennington and Matthew and Jennifer Cross of Delmar, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jodie Krulikowski and her husband, Michael; Kerry LaCroix, Jay LaCroix, Katie Ina Cross, and Becky Cross and one great-grandson, Ryan Krulikowski; a brother, Jack Cross; two sisters, Betty Center and Gertie Harrington; a beloved brother-in-law and lifelong hunting companion, Francis "Frank" Buck and his wife, Donna, of Cossayuna Lake, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Jim's request, private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire, contributions in James O.
