Obituary Condolences

SHAFTSBURY -- A service celebrating the life of James P. Thompson was held Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Deborah Estey conducted the service. Music was under the direction of organist George Paulin, who led the congregation in the singing of the hymns “In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Hymn Of Promise.”

The Rev. Estey offered the lessons and the gospel and led the congregation reciting Psalm 23 in unison. Special music was sung by soloist Gail Keyes. Words of remembrance and reflections were offered by relatives and friends of Jim, including his grandson, T.J. Lillie, and Kenneth Coonradt.

Interment followed in the family lot in Shaftsbury Village Cemetery where the Rev. Estey offered burial rites and prayers of committal. Serving as pallbearers were Jim’s grandsons, Ken Wickenden, Kevin Murphy, T.J. Lillie and Rick Morse; his great-grandson, Tyson Morse; and his longtime friend, Bill Flynn. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held following the service in the Michael S. Paulin Room at the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church.

James P. Thompson, a lifelong resident of Shaftsbury, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation. Arrangements are under the care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.
