BENNINGTON -- James Robert Hunt Sr., 70, of 734 Dermody Road, Bennington, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 29, 1936, son of William F. and Florence Colburn Hunt, he was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Hunt served in the Army from April 1955 to April 1957 during the Korean War.

He was employed by United Parcel Service in Brattleboro for eight years. Before that, he was employed by Fairdale Farms of Bennington for 27 years.

He was at one time a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Pittsfield.

Mr. Hunt enjoyed golfing and belonged to an informal Sunday morning group at Waubeeka Golf Links. He also enjoyed bowling, baseball and basketball, and was a longtime Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.

He and his wife, the former Janice V. Gordon, were married March 13, 1955.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, James R. Hunt Jr. of Pittsfield; a daughter, Donnalynn Pisani of Pittsfield; three brothers, Charles and Gerald Hunt of Pittsfield and Richard Hunt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Hunt was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Clifford Hunt, and four half-sisters, Dorothy, Elaine, Betty and Rita.

The funeral for James Robert Hunt Sr. will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m., from Dery Funeral Home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, at St. Charles Church, 89 Briggs Ave. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hunt may be made to the Pittsfield Boys’ and Girls’ Club or to the charity of one’s choice in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
