Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for James S. Shea, M.D., were held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was presided over by Rev. Edward Howard, S.J., pastor, and the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, retired pastor.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Mildred Pierce. Hymns offered during the funeral mass were “On Eagles Wings,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Song of Saint Francis” and “Let There Be Peace On Earth.”

The pall was placed on the casket by Dr. Shea’s children, Sharon Shea Keneally, James Shea Jr., Michael Shea, Erin Parmenter, Lauren Shea and his wife Jean S. Shea. The cross was placed on the casket by his wife Jean.

The scriptural readings were offered by two sons-in-law, Gerald Keneally and Bruce Parmenter. The offertory gifts were presented by Dr. Shea’s grandchildren Kate Keneally, Monique Keneally and Anja Pfeffer. Words of remembrance were given by a daughter, Sharon Shea-Keneally.

Bearers were two sons, James Shea Jr. and Michael Shea, four grandsons Finley Keneally, Kevin Keneally, Michael Keneally and Benjamin Parmenter.

A prayer service at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral mass.

Following the mass the flag was folded and presented to Dr. Shea’s wife, Jean, by Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk. A reception followed the mass in the church hall at Saint John’s.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, at the convenience of the family.

Sunday afternoon, the wake service was offered by Father Howard and Father Demasi. Attending the calling hours and funeral mass were many of Dr. Shea’s friends and associates from the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

James S. Shea, M.D., a well-known resident of Shaftsbury and Bennington, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at the Vermont Veterans Home.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington.
