Jane L. Moffitt

1928 - 2013 BENNINGTON Jane L. Moffitt, 84, a former resident of Harwood Hill, died Monday, April 22, 2013, in Bennington, following a long illness.

Born in Bennington on Oct. 13, 1928, she was the daughter of Edwol and Mary (Buckland) Hier. Jane received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1947 graduate of Bennington High School.

Jane married Frederick A. Moffitt in Bennington on Aug. 7, 1948. Fred died Dec. 28, 2003.

Jane began working at the Eagle Square Stanley Tools plant in Shaftsbury in June of 1965 as a machine operator in the wood department. At the time of her retirement in 1990, she was serving as Eagle Square's first female Assistant Foreperson, a position that she had held since 1976. Following retirement, Jane worked for several years at Yankee Medical in Bennington.

Jane was a long-time member of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church.

Jane and Fred enjoyed traveling, time spent with family and friends, bird watching and their faithful dogs.

Survivors include two sisters, Cathleen Harwood of Shaftsbury and Frances Pierce of Bennington; a brother, Daniel Hier of Bennington, and several nieces, nephews, whom Jane cared for as her own.

Jane was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Lasher and Dorothy Green and a brother, Robert Hier.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating. Private committal services will be held at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
