Janet Langwiser "Jan" After a seven year journey with breast cancer, Janet "Jan" Langwiser, age 51, passed on Saturday, October 15, surrounded by her family. Janet was a lifelong resident of New Britain; she was the daughter of Michael and Cecelia Dobek Langwiser. She leaves two sisters and one brother: Cynthia Langwiser and husband Michael Beck. of Washington D.C., Michael Langwiser of Bennington, Vt., and Nancy Langwiser and husband Bill Kear of Wellesley, Mass. She leaves several nieces and nephews: Katherine Beck of Washington, D.C., Michael Langwiser of Pownal, Vt., and Mindy Kear of Burlington, Vt. She is survived by her aunts and uncle, Helen Dobek, Claire Stefko, and Edward "Lindy" Dobek. She leaves numerous cousins including her dear, special cousin Pamela Bobrowski and son Kevin, of Berlin. She also leaves her dear friends, Sandy Pilz and Dave Milardo. Janet attended local schools and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She graduated from CCSC with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She taught K-8 physical education at Holy Cross School, St Francis of Assisi School, and St. Mary of Newington. She was highly regarded for her field days and her Think-a-thon activities. In addition to teaching, Janet was active throughout her career as the head coach of girl's middle school basketball teams. During her career she was one of the top coaches, having won numerous championships at the deanery, state, and New England CYO levels. FUNERAL NOTICE: Janet's funeral service will begin on Saturday, October 22nd at 9 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt Street, New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at St. John the Evangelist Church, 655 East Street, New Britain. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
