MANCHESTER -- Janet (Bobbie) Luke, a resident of White Birch Lane in Manchester, died Friday morning, June 24, 2005, at Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington.

She was born in Troy, N.Y., on April 1, 1935, the third daughter of Helen C. and Robert D. H. Luke. Robert died at the age of 32, and Helen later married Paul R. Wiley, beloved stepfather of Bobbie, Posy and Helen. Bobbie’s beloved husband Bob Kulberg died in 1997 and her sister in 2003.

Bobbie attended Ashley Hall in Charleston, S.C., and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Bobbie began her career as a retail buyer with Bergdorf Goodman in New York City and worked later with Bonwit Teller, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. Her last position in New York City was with Brownston Studios. She and her husband Bob moved to Manchester in 1990 where she continued her career at Orvis as manager for the women’s, men’s and gift department.

She traveled to Europe, China and India while working in the retail business and whenever she could travel for pleasure. Her cruises in later life were her great delight, especially when she could combine them with visits to the opera centers of Europe.

She loved flowers, art, all forms of music and the Green Mountains of Vermont. Most of all she cherished her family and friends who enriched her life till this day.

She is survived by her sister, Posy; her husband, Jack; their sons, Michael and his wife Joni and Peter and his wife Anne; four grandchildren; her brother, Paul R. Wiley of Tampa. Fla.; her niece, Karen; her guardian angel and her nephew, Don and family.

A casual gathering will be held to celebrate her life on Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2005, at her home on White Birch Lane in Manchester.
