CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Jason Todd Townsend, 23, died tragically in an accident on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 in the town of Easton.

Born in Cambridge on Thursday, Feb. 28, 1980, he was the son of Sherman and Barbara (Durant) Townsend, who live in Cambridge.

Jason was a graduate of Cambridge Central School, class of 1998, where he played baseball, basketball and football. He then graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Technology, class of 2000.

He worked as a heavy machinery mechanic and operator at Townsend Excavation, a family-owned business.

Jason enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to rallies and snowmobiling. This past summer he took up a new hobby of tractor-pulling with his lifelong friend, Stuart Ziehm.

Along with his parents, he is survived by three siblings, Kris L. Townsend of Bridgeport, Conn., Steven S. Townsend and Matthew A. Townsend, both of Troy; his maternal grandmother, Veronica Durant of Cambridge; his paternal grandparents, John and Doris (Sherman) Townsend of Johnsonville and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Whiteside Church on Center Cambridge Road. The Rev. Bob Richardson will officiate.

Jason was a relaxed, easy-going young man who was always ready to help a friend. He was always smiling and will be remembered for that distinct grin of his.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
