Obituary Condolences

CLARENDON -- Jay M. Sawtelle, 61, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H., after a short illness.

Jay was born on May 9, 1945, in Windsor, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Stearns) Sawtelle.

Jay was formerly employed by the Vermont Marble Company, Killington Wood Products, the Belden Corp., J.P. Carrara and the Rutland Group.

Affectionately known as JJ, he had been employed for the past several years by the Vermont Department of Transportation in road maintenance, working out of the Clarendon state garage.

Jay was an avid fan of cowboy movies, especially the singing cowboys, country and western music and dancing and had a special interest in trucks and tractors, especially John Deere tractors. He enjoyed country fairs, square dancing, hunting and fishing and the country life. Jay was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1122 in Rutland.

Jay is survived by one son, Matthew Sawtelle of Clarendon Springs; his girlfriend, Paula Colbert of North Bennington; an aunt and numerous cousins.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

The funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26, with burial to follow in the East Clarendon Cemetery in East Clarendon.
