Jean E. Miller Obituary
Jean E. Miller passed away on May 22, 2018 at The Center for Life and Rehabilitation in Bennington , Vt. after a brief illness. She was a long time resident of Arlington, Vt. Jean was the daughter of the late John W. Miller and Dorothy (Dean) Miller and her step mother Edith (Goldthwaite) Miller who raised Jean after her mother's death when she was just 3 years old. Jean is survived by her brothers John D. Miller of Sagamore, Ma and Thomas J. Miller and his wife Joanne of Pembroke, Ma. She is also survived by her nieces Margaret Miller of West Roxbury, Ma, Kaitlyn Weatherton of Herndon, Va, Jennifer Miller of Taunton, Ma, Allison Hill of Raynham, Ma, and nephews Mark Miller of Jacksonville, Fl, Michael Miller of Hanson, Ma, and John Miller of Weymouth, Ma, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Jean was born March 10, 1928 in Brockton, Ma and was raised in Easton, Ma, later moving to Whitman, Ma and Uxbridge, Ma. Jean graduated from Brown University in 1949 when she began her long and prestigious career as a teacher and school administrator. Her career took her all over the United States including Bennington College where she first fell in love with Vermont. She has owned a home in Arlington, Vt. since 1960.

Jean enjoyed skiing, gardening, snow shoeing, and geneology. She was also an avid golfer and was a member at the Dorset Field Club since 1961. Her passion however was education and she spent her life enriching the lives of her students. She never missed an opportunity to mentor the young people who she came in contact with. She was particularly interested in women's studies and was very involved in the advancement of women through education.

In her later life Jean remained active with The Dorset Theater Festival where there is a young playwrights competition and workshop in her name, The Maple Street School in Manchester where she served on their board, The Pembroke Center Council for Teaching and Research on Women at Brown University, and The Vermont Womens Fund.

A celebration of life will be held on June 23, 2018 at noon at The Maple Street School 322 Maple St. Manchester, Vt . Burial will be at a later date in Easton, Ma.
