Jean M. Mahar

1928 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS N.Y. - Jean M. Mahar, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 31, at her daughter's home in Bennington, Vt. Born in Albany, N.Y. on Oct. 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Nancy (Ghezzi) Bossalini. She was educated at Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany and graduated from the College of St. Rose, with a B.S. in nursing. Jean worked at several area hospitals, including St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y., the Veterans Administration Hospital and the Albany Medical Center, both in Albany, N.Y., as well as the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, Vt.. She was a member of the Home Bureau, St. Mary's Academy Auxilliary and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Jean was the beloved wife of Leo J. Mahar for 60 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her six children, Susan (Harry) Hermann of Havertown, Pa., Michael (Leslie) Mahar of Bennington, Vt., Mary (Brian) Peat of Bennington, Vt., Elizabeth Cohoon of East Greenbush, N.Y., Jeanne (Richard) Clark of Sanford, Maine, and Patricia (Michael) Ryan of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; twelve grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Bossalini; and one niece and two nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Dominick Bossalini. Jean had a never-ending love for her family, friends, and country, and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, striving to give them the best of everything. She was an inspiration to all and touched the hearts of everyone who was blessed enough to know her. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick falls, N.Y. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, on Tuesday, November 4, from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church through the funeral home.
