BRUNSWICK, N.Y. -- Jean P. Lason, 80, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5, 2006, following a brief illness at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy.

She was born June 3, 1926, in Bennington, Vt., daughter of the late Owen V. Paddock and Helen M. Cantelo of Hoosick, and widow of the late Harold A. Lason. Jean grew up on the Sunset Knoll farm in Hoosick, studied violin and piano and graduated from Mildred Elley Business School in Albany. She lived in Loudonville, and later spent many years in Millbrae, Calif., before moving to Brunswick. She retired from a 25-year career as an executive secretary and administrative assistant in San Francisco Bay area.

Jean was also an accomplished musician, who performed professionally on the organ and piano in Las Vegas and Ardmore, Okla. An avid radio listener and New York Yankees fan, she enjoyed downhill skiing as a member of the Helderberg Ski Club, played golf and mastered crossword puzzles.

Jean is survived by her beloved son, Jeffrey, and his wife, Marleen, of Menands; a nephew, Donald Hillman (Sharon), of West Coxsackie; a niece, Nancy Hillman (Susan Cholet), of Trenton, N.J.; and her dear friends, Jane Winegard, of Hoosick, and Harry Pratt, of Watervliet. She is predeceased by her sister, Virginia Hillman.

A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Menands on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Blair residence, Van Eyck House, 17 Dutch Village, Menands, on Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Presbyterian Church through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.
