Jean T. Steward 1935 - 2011 BENNINGTON, VT Jean Thompson Steward, age 75, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Mrs. Stewart was born in Rutland on Oct. 16, 1935. She was the daughter of George and Annabel Goodnow Thompson. She was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1953. In her earlier years she had worked at the old Brandon Theatre. She earned her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate from Putnam School of Nursing in Bennington in 1957. She had worked as an L.P.N. at Bennington Hospital and several area nursing homes for more than 30 years. She later worked from home as a Medical Transcriptionist for several years. She has been a resident of Bennington since 1993, moving here from Fair Haven, where she had resided since 1993. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her computer. She loved animals. Surviving is her daughter, Irene McCurdy of Bennington, with whom she had made her home. She is also survived by several cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice McCurdy. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 12 noon, at the MILLER & KETCHAM FUNERAL HOME in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18, from 11 a.m. until service time at 12 noon. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to a humane society of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home.
