1928 - 2015 BENNINGTON Jean G. Stone, 86, a former resident of School St. died Thursday July 2, 2015 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness. She was born in Pittsfield, MA November 12, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Hamn) Gangloff. Jean received her education in Manchester and was a 1947 graduate of Burr & Burton Academy. Jean married John R. Stone in Manchester, VT on June 17, 1950. Mr. Stone died June 12, 2012 In earlier years Jean was employed as a switchboard operator at AT&T in Manchester. She later worked as an admissions clerk at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Jean was a 60 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was a member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. In earlier years she was a Girl Scout Leader and was a 10 year member of Weight Watchers. She enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with her family Survivors include her children, Susan Stone of Kingman, Arizona, Margaret Harris and Bruce of Fort Pierce, Florida, Judith Stone of Pownal, VT, Elizabeth Ravelin and Richard of Richmond, VT, Kathleen Atkins and James Peterson of North Bennington, VT and Mary Dunham of Waterford, New York; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Stone, a son, John Stone III and two brothers, Harold and Robert Gangloff. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Jean G. Stone may be made to the Bennington Special Olympics through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
