POWNAL -- Mrs. Jeanette Maude (Burdick) Cummings Jones, 79, of Pine Hollow Road and 2920 Alternate 19 North Dunedin, Fla., died Thursday evening, Dec. 15, 2005, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born in Adams, Mass., on May 24, 1926, a daughter of Hazel (Meacham) Burdick and the late Harold W. Burdick. She attended schools in Adams, Pownal and Williamstown, Mass., and graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1945.

Mrs. Jones was first employed by the former Gaevert Company of America in Williamstown. She later worked at the Williams Inn and the Taconic Park Restaurant in Williamstown. She and her first husband, Carroll Cummings, managed Susan Steele’s store at Five Corners in South Williamstown. Upon the death of her husband in 1982, she continued to run the store for Mr. and Mrs. William Vanderbilt.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the Second Congregational Church in South Williamstown. She was a also a member of the former First Baptist Church in Pownal. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, Red Sox baseball and feeding carrots to her son and daughter-in-law’s miniature horses. She also enjoyed motor-homing.

She and her husband, Archer Jones, made their home in Dunedin in the winter and spent summers at the Pine Hollow Campground in Pownal. Her first husband was Carroll Cummings, who died in September 1982. They were married in 1945.

Survivors include her husband, Archer Jones, whom she married on Aug. 4, 1988 in Homer, Alaska; her mother, Hazel (Meacham) Burdick of Williamstown, a son, Richard Cummings and his wife, Diana (Whitey) Cummings, of Pownal; two grandchildren, Dustin Cummings and Melissa Cummings, both of Pownal; two great-grandchildren, Makaela and Areanna; one brother, Wesley Burdick and his wife, Valerie, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; two stepsons, Rick Jones and his wife, Debra, of Williamstown; Mark Jones and his wife, Donna, of Wakefield, R.I.; two nephews, Mark Burdick of Hancock, Mass., and Scott Burdick of Berlin, N.Y.; one niece, Julie Bourassa of Hancock; and her former sister in law, Joan Burdick of Hancock.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jeannette Cummings Jones will be held Monday morning, Dec. 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Second Congregational Church in South Williamstown with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Southlawn Cemetery in South Williamstown. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams are Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Donations to the Second Congregational Church in care of the funeral home.
