Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Jeanne M. Poulin, 88, a longtime resident of Arlington, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, in Salem, Va., where she had lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Fay Poulin, for the past several years.

She was born in New York City on Jan. 12, 1918, the daughter of the late Thomas and Angelina (Oreiller) Balac. She attended schools in Vermont and New Jersey, graduating from high school in Newark, N.J.

She married the late Arthur Poulin on May 16, 1942, in Arlington. Harry and Nellie Hayden served as best man and maid of honor. Shortly after their marriage, Arthur went to war and was away from his young bride for over four years. During these years, Jeanne moved back to New Jersey and lived with her parents. Reunited with her husband after World War II, they settled in Arlington, where she worked as a bookkeeper at Mack Molding and then began raising a family. Once she started her family, her focus shifted to raising her children. Her greatest enjoyment came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was very proud of all their accomplishments and she loved welcoming them into her home. Jeanne was fun, free spirited and loved to laugh. She and Martha, her sister and best friend, shared a devilish side which extended from childhood through their entire adult lives.

Mrs. Poulin enjoyed bowling in the local Arlington womens league. She also was a wonderful baker. Friends and family knew to drop in on Saturday afternoon to enjoy her fresh goodies. Jeanne was a member of St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Arlington. She loved movies and reading. She also enjoyed the simple things in life, such as sitting on the back porch of her home to take in the wonderful Vermont summer while chatting with her friends and neighbors, Alden and Maggie Grout. For a number of years she hosted a large Fourth of July gathering in the field behind her house. She so enjoyed interacting with all the guests.

Jeanne is survived by her two sons, Thomas Arthur Poulin of Troutville, Va., and James Brian Poulin of Richmond; one daughter, Nancy Jeanne Langlois of Leominster Mass.; six grandchildren, Angela Gamble, Heather Ferguson, Luke Poulin, Amanda Poulin, Will Langlois and Nicole Langlois; and four great-grandchildren, Megan Gamble, Hannah Egtemier, Cole Poulin, Carter Ferguson. She is predeceased by her sister, Martha Thomas, and brother, Thomas Balac.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary’s Church on June 16 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Dupuis, pastor, officiating. Private interment services will take place at the Poulin family lot in St. Columban’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Foundation through the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
