Jeffrey Roberts Palmer

1959-2015 BENNINGTON Jeffrey Roberts Palmer, 56, a lifelong resident of Bradford Street in Bennington, died unexpectedly Monday, June 1, 2015, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He was born in Bennington, Vt. on February 9, 1959. He was the son of the late Vaughn and Eleanore (Roberts) Palmer. Jeff received his education in the local schools and was a 1981 graduate of the Bennington School District's Special Needs Program. His classmates remained his lifelong friends. Jeff took great pride in his work. He was employed at the Label Shopper in Bennington as a Shoe Sales Specialist. Through Creative Workforce Solutions at UCS, Jeff was able to honor his employer as 2015 Employer of the Year. He was a life member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church and attended the Bennington Ecumenical Special Religion Class for over 30 years. He attended the Atwood Center in Bennington where he was involved in many social and community activities. Jeff was a member of the Atwood Center Bowling Team who raised funds yearly for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Bowl for Kids Sake. Jeff was proud to be a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Bennington. He was a Green Thumb Gardner where he and his friends planted and cared for a field of pumpkins and brought them to market in the Fall. Over the years, Jeff was a Special Olympian and had recently participated in the Vermont State Special Olympics in Burlington. He loved attending the Elks' Silver Towers Camp and enjoyed swimming, golfing, traveling to Florida and Hampton Beach. He also served as vice president of the Palmer Family Reunion Committee. Jeff was a staunch Republican, with a winning personality who touched many lives. All who knew him, loved him, his passion for love, life and dance. Jeff was a very special human being because of his resilience, perspective on life, huge heart and unconditional love. Jeff knew that when a heart stops beating, a soul lives on. Survivors include his brothers and sister, Gregory Palmer (Joyce), of Bennington, David Palmer (Joanne), of Pownal, Vt. and Carolee Gulley (James), of Bennington; seven nieces and nephews (Amy, Megan, Gwen, Jennifer, Jessica, James, and Jonathan); 10 great-nieces and nephews; a great great-niece and nephew; his home care providers, Paige and Shane Evans and their two boys, Ty and Mason; many cousins and friends. The Burial Office celebrating Jeff's life will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington. The burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. A celebration of Jeff's life will continue at the American Legion Post 13. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Jeffrey Roberts Palmer may be made to the Developmental Services at the Atwood Center (UCS) through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
