Jerry D. DeLuca 1924 - 2012 HOOSICK FALLS NY Jerry D. DeLuca, 87, formerly of High Street in Hoosick Falls, died peacefully at the Eddy Village Green Nursing Facility in Slingerlands on Saturday evening surrounded by his loving family. Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of Santo and Laura D'Amico DeLuca. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie Cranston DeLuca, on Feb. 23, 2010. They were married on Dec. 17, 1977. A 1943 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls where he was an outstanding basketball player, Jerry entered the Army on Oct. 2, 1943. He was a member of the 185th Infantry Regiment anti tank company. He served in the Pacific Theater, the Bismarck Archipelago, Luzon New Guinea Campaign and the Philippine Islands. Jerry was awarded the Bronze Star medal (first oak-leaf cluster) on Feb. 4, 1945, for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He had rescued a fallen comrade while under heavy machine gun fire from the enemy. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 22, 1945. He attended Siena College and graduated from the Troy Business College on Aug. 13, 1948. Jerry was employed by the United States Post Office in Hoosick Falls from Oct. 10, 1949, promoted to Assistant Post Master April 11, 1964, promoted to Post Master Nov. 14, 1987, and retired after 40 years of service in July of 1989. He also prepared income tax returns for local residents and businesses for many years. Jerry was a member of the following organizations: Hoosick Falls Elks, Hoosick Falls American Legion Post #40, Hoosick Falls Historical Society and the Hoosick Falls Country Club. Jerry was an avid golfer and while retired recorded a "Hole-in-One" at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling, traveling and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children Don (Brenda) DeLuca of Guilderland, Diane (Bill) Miller of Austin, TX, step-children Steve (Mary) Bradley of Hoosick Falls, Mike (Darlene) Bradley of Cambridge, siblings Rose (Robert) Dakin of Rutland, VT, Albert (Barbara) DeLuca of Hoosick Falls, grandchildren D.J., Justin, Sarah, Brian, Jaime, Kristin, Stephany, William, Nicole, Michael, Emily and Kim; along with seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, baby Albert, Joseph and Tony. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Zelker at the Immaculate Conception Church, 73 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 9:30 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the church on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM when the family will be present. For those who wish to remember Jerry in a special way, memorial contributions may be made to either the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or to the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the ROBSON-REINFURT FUNERAL HOME.
