HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Jerry Harrington Sr., 58, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 20 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. He resided with his wife Snookie (Benkoski) Harrington on Superior Street in Hoosick Falls.

He was born Sept. 6, 1945 in Hoosick Falls son of the late Robert and Dolores (Nimmons) Harrington. Jerry graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1966, and was very active with its alumni. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., serving from 1966 to 1968 in the United States. Jerry taught the Hunters Safety Course in Hoosick Falls for many years. He was very active in the community, always lending a helping hand to others. He enjoyed locksmithing and always helped in the time of need. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Jerry was a member of several organizations in the community including Elks Lodge # 178, where he was the leading knight and volunteer bartender. Other memberships include Eagles Aerie # 2467, American Legion Post # 40, the Youth Center Youth Commission, Derby Club, Owlkill Rod & Gun Club and the Pioneer Fish & Game Club. He was one of Santa’s Helpers for many years and always stopped at the Rivers Edge Community Home in Bennington. Jerry also volunteered for the S.H.A.R.E. program in Massachusetts.

Survivors other than his wife Snookie include a daughter, Heidi Taylor and her husband John of Hoosick Falls; a son, Ike Harrington and his wife Kelly of Henderson, Nev.; two sisters, Sandy McCart and Sue Hickey both of Hoosick Falls; four brothers, Bobby Harrington of Ft. Myers, Fla., Billy Harrington of Buford, Ga., Johnny Harrington of White Creek, N.Y., and Peter Harrington of Ft. Plain, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Meghan Harrington, Mattison Taylor and Jacob Randall; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Town of Hoosick Food Closet or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home. Members of the Hoosick Falls Elks will meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to conduct their services.
