1935 - 2015 NORTH BENNINGTON Jerry Tobin Mattison, 79, died peacefully Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington surrounded by his family. He was born in East Arlington, VT July 30, 1935. He was the son of the late Jay L. and Edith Mae (Andrew) Mattison. From 1954 until 1958 Jerry served as a 3rd Class Engineman in the United States Navy aboard the USS Snyder stationed in Brooklyn, New York He married the former Mary Ann Welch on Nov. 12, 1955 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. In earlier years Mr. Mattison had been employed at Fillmore Farms, St. Johnsbury Trucking in Bennington and Joe Bettis Trucking in Hoosick Falls. He later worked for the Village of North Bennington retiring in 2004. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed helping his son on his farm. He also enjoyed building things for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and helping his friends. Survivors include his wife, Mary Welch Mattison of North Bennington. His son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cindy Mattison of Hoosick Falls, NY; two grandchildren, Jennifer Mattison-DaRosa (Lenny) and Jessica Eckert (Chris) of Hoosick Falls, four great-grandchildren, Ethan Mattison, Hunter Hathaway Elizabeth DaRosa and Aiden Eckert all of Hoosick Falls; three brothers, Norman Mattison of Arlington, VT, Duane Mattison of Spokane, Washington and Keith Mattison of Whiting, VT, a sister Mallie Mandel of Washington, CT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dale Hall officiating. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday from 1p.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot at Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland, VT in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Jerry T. Mattison may be made to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, MA through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
