Obituary Condolences

ESSEX -- Jerry Navilia, 83, died unexpectedly in Burlington on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.

He was born in Colonie, N.Y. March 31, 1920, the son of the late Donato and Rosemary (Cerone) Navilia.

Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Bike Shop, a successful bicycle business on Wolf Road in Colonie, N.Y. for 56 years, retiring in 1997.

Jerry was an accomplished musician and well known in the area for his attributes on the harmonica and guitar. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Colonie, N.Y., the Harmonica Club of Albany, N.Y. and a former member of the Elks Club of Guilderland, N.Y.

He was a devoted family man who especially loved being “Papa” to his grandchildren, Danielle and Peter, who adored him.

He is survived by his wife Isabelle “Sis” (Callahan) Navilia of Albany, N.Y.; his daughter, Laurie Navilia-Miller and her husband Brian, former residents of Bennington, and their children, Danielle and Peter Miller, all of Essex; his step-son Tom Gries and his wife Barbara of East Greenbush, N.Y. and their sons, Tom Gries Jr. and his wife Michelle of Providence, R.I., Scott Gries of New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Bible Church, 2025 Williston Road, S. Burlington with visitation in the church from 11 a.m. until noon. A memorial service and burial will take place in the spring in Albany, N.Y. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Assoc., of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., S. Burlington, VT 05403.
