LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Ms. Jessie F. Dewey, 93, a resident of Lexington, died Saturday morning, Nov. 20, 2004, at the Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington following a long illness.

She was born in Pownal, Vt. on Dec. 27, 1910, and was the daughter of Benjamin and Florence (Blanchard) Flynn. She received her education in the Pownal and Bennington, Vt. schools.

In earlier years, Ms. Dewey was employed at EZ Mill for 22 years and was a school bus driver for 22 years. She later owned and operated the Notch Restaurant in Bennington until her retirement.

Ms. Dewey was a motorcycle stunt rider. She rode motorcycles from the age of 16 until she was 60. Ms. Dewey was the first woman in the United States to crash a motorcycle through a flaming board wall.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Pete B. Dewey of Bennington, Tammy A. Hilchey of Lexington, Vance F. Dewey of Ashaway, R.I. and Anthony J. Dewey of Lexington; eight great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Rena Dewey Morrison of North Port, Fla. Ms. Dewey is predeceased by one son, Jesse B. Dewey, and her brother Edward Flynn.

At her request, there will be no services held.
