Obituary Condolences

LAKE LAUDERDALE, N.Y. -- Jimmy Leon Stapp, 63, of Sullivan Way, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction, Vt., from complications of cancer surgery. He was the devoted companion of Sue Lincoln Jacobson.

Born Aug. 22, 1942, in Missouri, he was the son of the late Dan Green Stapp and Laura Mari Sayers Stapp.

Jimmy joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and served in the Vietnam War. He left the service with a 100 percent disability. He was a lifelong member of the White Hall American Legion.

After the service he moved to Plattsburgh and then to White Hall, where he lived for more than 20 years. In 1984 he and Sue moved to their home at the lake.

Very musically inclined, Jim loved playing the guitar and had his own band, Desperado Junction. Strumming with his friends still gave him much pleasure.

He also enjoyed golfing, carving from wood and stone and having breakfast with the “Breakfast Flakes.”

He loved spending time with Sue’s family, whom he considered his own. He was devoted to the grandchildren.

Along with Sue, his companion for 22 years, Jim is survived by her family: three children, Sheila Murray of Buskirk, Tonya Julius of Cambridge, and Ben Jacobson of Shushan; four grandchildren, Jacob and Cole Murray and Owen and Mya Julius; her mother, Gladys Morin of North Adams, Mass.; and her father, Doug Loncoln of Shushan. His mother and five siblings reside in Missouri.

A funeral and burial is being held in Missouri.

A memorial service will be held locally at a time to be announced.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, Cambridge.
