1942 - 2015 BENNINGTON Joan E. Carpenter, 73, a resident of Beech St. died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Bennington, VT on April 25, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Frank W. Quackenbush and Hazel (Becker) Green. She received her education in Bennington and was a 1960 graduate of Bennington High School. She married Clifford C. Carpenter on January 3, 1961 in Wurzberg, Germany. Mr. Carpenter died January 5, 2014. In earlier years, Joan was employed at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington and later worked in the accounting department at Synergy from which she retired. She enjoyed painting and working with stained glass. Her family was her main interest along with her cat Mr. Peepers. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Carpenter of Bennington and Karin Hurley and her husband, Andrew of Bennington; four grandchildren; Scott Chellis, Jessica Chellis, Christopher Hurley and Meagan Hurley; three great-grandchildren, Layla, Paiton and Kaitlyn; a sister, Sandra Clawson of Bennington her step-father, Clark Green Jr. of Bennington, a half-sister, Nancy Burgess of Shaftsbury and a half-brother, Clark Green III of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday May 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from Noon until the time of the service. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Joan E. Carpenter may be made to the West Mountain Animal Hospital through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
