BENNINGTON Joan (Murrell) Ledgard, 82, of Leminster, MA and a native of Shaftsbury, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 in Leominster, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry J. Ledgard, who died in 1982. Born in Shaftsbury, she was raised and educated in the greater Bennington area. She worked for a time as the secretary to the president of the former Bennington Memorial Hospital and later at the George Frost Company in Shirley, MA, but most of her time was focused on providing a loving home for her husband and children. The family moved often for Mr. Ledgard's career, residing in NY for a time before settling in MA. She liked socializing with her neighbors, and "wouldn't walk away from a good conversation." She also enjoyed shopping and travel, and even in later years would venture on cross country trips despite health issues. A devoted Catholic, her daily life was centered around the church and her faith. She was a former communicant of St. Bridget's Church in Maynard, MA and was an active parishioner of St. Leo's Church in Leominster. Mrs. Ledgard was the was the daughter of the late William J. and Marguerite A. (Downs) Murrell, and sister of the late June Carroll and Jane Holznagel. She is survived by four children: Harry "Jay" Ledgard II and his wife, Perri of Sterling, MA, Jeffrey D. Ledgard of Athol, MA, Theresa (Ledgard) Bates and husband, Scott of Kent, WA., and Beth (Ledgard) Prentiss of Fitchburg, MA; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and extended family. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours are Wed. Aug. 12th from 6 to 9pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111), Acton, MA. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thurs. Aug. 13th at 11am in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival St, Maynard within St. Bridget's Cemetery, Great Rd (Rte 117) Maynard.
