PERU - Joan C. Lyman, 87, a resident of Peru, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Joan was born in Altoona, Pa., on Feb. 7, 1927, the daughter of Michael and Sophie (Hamryski) Chuita. Joan graduated from Hillside School in 1944 with a straight A average and was Valedictorian of her class. She was President of the Student Government Association and a member of the National Honor Society in her Junior and Senior year.
Joan worked as the secretary to the President of a steel company in Hillside, N.J., and then as secretary to the General Manager of Television Station WRGB.
Joan loved her home and was a mother extraordinaire. In her earlier years, Joan was involved with Girl Scouts and was a Cub Scout Leader.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, loved Frank Sinatra music, was a great cook, loved to travel and cherished times spent with her family.
Joan was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church (Christ Our Savior Parish) in Manchester.
Joan is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Lyman of Peru, whom she married in Hillside, N.J., on May 21, 1949; her children, Beverly Bullock and her husband, Michael Bullock, of West Grove, Pa., Leslie Lyman Davis of Sebago, Maine, and Peru, and Michael Lyman and his wife, Karen, of Summit, N.J.; grandchildren, Clare Boyd and her husband, Walker; Noah Bullock, Lucy Bullock-Sieger and her husband, Dan; Alexis Lyman Davis, Maxwell Lyman Davis, Kyle Lyman and Eric Lyman, and her great-granddaughter, Una.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death and Burial was celebrated Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church (Christ Our Savior Parish) in Manchester. Interment followed in Peru Cemetery.
