Joan Marie (Wright) Miller

1934 - 2016 BENNINGTON Joan Marie (Wright) Miller, 81, a resident of Beech Street, passed away Wednesday February 10, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Joan was born in Bennington on August 21, 1934 the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Dorothy (Griffith) Wright, Sr. and attended schools in Arlington, Shaftsbury and Bennington. Joan worked as a housekeeper for Putnam Memorial Hospital, North Adams Regional Hospital and in her earlier years the Peaceful Valley Motel. Joan enjoyed going to Foxwoods and Saratoga. She loved dancing at the Grange, and recalled Norman Rockwell coming to some of those dances, listening to country music, taking rides in the country, meeting people, gatherings in her backyard and spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her children, Thomas E. Miller, II of Bennington, Frederick R. Miller and his wife, Doreen of Pownal, Jeffrey Miller and his wife, Debi of Pownal, Keith Miller and his wife, Kim of Bennington, Brenda Knapp and her husband, Jeffrey of Shaftsbury and Kimberly Bishop and her former husband, Gary Bishop of Pownal and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also her special friends Joan and Larry Rowe of Arlington, VT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Miller, Sr. whom she married in Bennington in 1951. Mr. Miller passed away February 24, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael J. Miller who died October 2012, her daughter-in-law, Janet Sue Miller who died in February 2015 and her brother, Raymond Wright, in April 1979. Joan was a loving wife and friend to her husband, a loyal and true friend to many, and a loving mother as well as friend to each of her children, and grandchildren. All who knew her will certainly miss her goodness in their lives, but will continue with thankful hearts, celebrating the time and life shared with her. At the request of the family funeral services will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Joan's memory can be made to Bayada, VNA, or BPI through the funeral home.
