Joan Petty Warrender 1936 - 2009 NORTH POWNAL Joan Petty Warrender, 72, of North Pownal Road died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Born in Jackson County, West Va., on Feb. 26, 1936, daughter of Austin Addison and Bernice Iona King Kessel, Joan received her early education in West Virginia and later graduated from SUNY Brockport She married Richard Warrender in March of 1957 in West Vale, N.Y. While living in Syracuse, N.Y., Joan was employed at the Upstate Medical Center as Director of Volunteers and later at the Laubach Literacy in Syracuse as Director of Publicity. Her most recent employment was as the Marketing Director of Troy's River Spark Visitor Center in Troy, N.Y. Joan was a member of the Battenkill Chorale, the Marcellus Chorale and the Hubbard Hall Opera House. She enjoyed drama, music and the visual arts. Besides her husband, Richard Warrender of North Pownal, she leaves her children, Kevin Warrender of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Edith Warrender of Pownal, Scott Warrender of Fort Lauderdale, and Tracy Marlatt of Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren, Kathryn, Evan, Ian and Eva-Grace, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Joan Warrender will be held from the Second Congregational Church on Hillside Street in Bennington on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Lee-Clark officiating. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Joan Petty Kessel Warrender may be made to either the Pownal Valley Fire Department or Hubbard Hall Projects in Cambridge, New York through the office of the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
