Joann D. Carter 1946-2009 BENNINGTON Joann D. Carter, 62, a resident of Applegate Drive in Bennington, died Sunday October 11, 2009 at her residence following a long battle with ALS Disease. She was born in Gloversville, N.Y. December 27, 1946, daughter of the late Florian Sollak Sr. and Flora Pantalone Sollak. Joann received her education in Gloversville. She married Francis Carter on June 26, 1976 at the Lutheran Church in Johnstown, N.Y. In earlier years Joann was employed at the former Gates Mills Factory in Johnstown. Joann enjoyed bingo, going to McDonalds, shopping, crafts and was very dedicated to her catholic faith. She loved angels and was a member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Survivors include her husband, Francis Carter, of Bennington; their children, BobbiJo Morway of Gloversville, N.Y., Christopher Sartin of Broadalbin, N.Y. and Frank Carter Jr. of Bennington; eight grandchildren, five great- grandchildren; five sisters, Linda Salvione of Gloversville, N.Y., Yvonne Loomis of Gloversville, Jeannie Popp of Johnstown, N.Y., Frances Older of Tribes Hill, N.Y. and Betty Young of Randall, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a son, Raymond Sartin; a brother, Florian Sollak Jr.; and a sister, Judith Spencer. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday October 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Joann may be made to the ALS Foundation through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
