Joanne Dunham 1940 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Joanne Dunham, 71, a resident of Observatory Street in Bennington, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Bennington on June 5, 1940, daughter of the late Robert James Pilling and Mildred (North) Pilling. Joanne received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Saint Francis de Sales Academy and later graduated from Bennington High School, class of 1958. She later graduated from Saint Joseph's Business College (Now SVC) where she completed two years in one. Joanne was first married to Richard D. Bogardus. Mr. Bogardus died January 25, 1968. She later married John F. "Rusty" Dunham April 12, 1969, in Bennington. They were married by John Kennedy, Justice of the Peace. They were later married at Saint Francis de Sales Church April 4, 1981, by Father Gerald Bombardier. Mr. Dunham died January 23, 2006 In earlier years, Joanne was employed at the Bennington Chamber of Commerce. She also had been employed as a secretary to the principal at the Mount Anthony Union High School and for several years worked as a secretary for Judge Bernard Harte. Joanne also owned and operated Joanne's Maternity Shop on Main St. in Bennington, worked at the Bennington Museum and for 27 years was employed at the law offices of Barr, Sternberg and Moss as office manager and paralegal. She most recently was employed at Rensselear County ARC and United Counseling Service in Bennington. Joanne was a member of the former Mount Anthony Lioness Club and was presently a member of the Bennington Lions Club, American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary, The Women of the Moose, Bennington Professional Women's Club, the Catholic Daughters of America and Saint Anne's Society at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. Joanne enjoyed vacationing and going to casinos. Her family was her main interest. Survivors include her sons, Richard Bogardus and his wife Tanya of Bennington, John Dunham and his partner Roald Wilson of Bennington; two grandchildren, Trevor Bogardus and Tabitha Bogardus, both of Bennington; a sister, Margaret Hoyt and her husband, Ted, of Surfside Beach, SC; a sister-in-law, Ellie Pilling of Pittstown, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Pilling, a sister, Dorothy Ann Carroll, and her daughter-in-law, Heather Bogardus. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, with a prayer at 10:30 a.m. and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday May 15 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Joanne Dunham may be made to the Bennington Lions Club Sight and Hearing Fund or Saint Anne's Society at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
