John B. Davies Obituary
Arlington - Beloved husband, devoted father, friend and mentor to many. John was born and raised in New Jersey.

He served in the G-3 Section of the Army's 4th Infantry Division, 1951 to 1953. John left his building business in NJ to move to Vermont in 1983. He served the community with hard work, leadership, and a sense of humor. He was a founding member of Bennington County Habitat for Humanity and loved to be on the construction site working with the volunteers. He was a devoted member of the Federated Church of East Arlington, serving in many capacities. Among the organizations and projects he was involved in were: Arlington Food Shelf, Fisher School and Arlington High School renovations, building Martha Canfield Library, Smokey House Center.

He was a very modest man who never sought recognition of his many untold acts of kindness. Woodworker, carpenter, builder, he would often say, "Happiness is a piece of wood," or ask, "Did you make any sawdust today?" He and his wife Marie--the love of his life-- had just celebrated their 66th anniversary in June.

SERVICES: Respectful of his wishes there will be no public funeral service. A memorial gathering, with sawdust, will be held at a date to be determined.

Donations in his memory may be made to: Bennington County Habitat for Humanity or Arlington Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his wife Marie, son Jim, daughter Jill and her wife Martie. Many will miss him and hold his generous spirit in their memories.
